Joplin, MO – Okla jailer beaten in jail break in fair condition

(Information in the following story is from: Tulsa World, http://www.tulsaworld.com)

JAY, Okla. (AP) A Delaware County jailer who was beaten with a metal pipe during a jail break is improving at a Joplin, Mo., hospital.

Freeman Health System spokeswoman Christen Stark told the Tulsa World Friday that 46-year-old Linda Eaton is listed in fair condition.

Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Jessica Brown says Eaton and 30-year-old Matt Hyso were struck in the head with a pipe from a television stand Wednesday as they entered a cell to serve dinner to inmates.

Sheriff Jay Blackfox said Hyso was expected to be released from St. John's Regional Medical Center on Friday.

Devin Martin and Kyle Sutton escaped from the jail about 7 p.m. Wednesday. Brown says during a standoff with police, Martin killed himself to avoid being captured. Sutton was taken into custody.
