Investigation into Bungled Oklahoma Executions to Resume

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — A grand jury conducting a closed-door investigation into drug mix-ups during the last two scheduled lethal injections in Oklahoma is resuming its work.

The multicounty grand jury directed by Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt's office resumed its session on Tuesday and is scheduled to meet through Thursday in Oklahoma City.

The panel is looking into how the wrong drug was used to execute an inmate in January 2015 and then delivered again for a scheduled lethal injection in September. It could issue a final report this week.

The grand jury meets for three days each month. Pruitt has said he's hopeful the grand jury is nearing completion of its investigation.

He says he won't request any execution dates until at least five months after the grand jury report is released.
