Insanity Defense A Possibility in Bever Case

KWGS News File Photo

An attorney for an Oklahoma teenager charged along with his older brother in the stabbing deaths of their parents and three siblings may seek an insanity defense in his client's case.

Seventeen-year-old Michael Bever has pleaded not guilty in the July 2015 killings of their parents, 52-year-old David Bever and 44-year-old April Bever in suburban Tulsa. Twelve-year-old Daniel, 7-year-old Christopher and 5-year-old Victoria were also killed. Two other siblings survived.

The Tulsa World reports that Bever's attorney, Rob Nigh, filed Thursday a notice of intent to raise the question of his client's mental status at the time of the killings.

His brother, 20-year-old Robert Bever, pleaded guilty in the case and was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
