Inmate Electrocuted at Claremore

KWGS News

CLAREMORE, Okla. (AP) — Authorities say an inmate in the Rogers County jail was found dead in his cell after apparently electrocuting himself.

Authorities say the 47-year-old inmate had been set to go to trial Monday on charges of rape, incest and making a lewd or indecent proposal to a child.

The Associated Press is not naming the inmate to avoid identifying his alleged victim.

The Rogers County Sheriff's Office tells Tulsa television station KOTV that the inmate apparently used a CPAP breathing machine to electrocute himself.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is looking into the death. Spokeswoman Jessica Brown says the agency is awaiting an official cause of death from the state medical examiner's office.
