Inman Returning to Oklahoma Legislature

Former Oklahoma House Minority Leader Scott Inman announced Friday he is returning to the legislature.

"After much consideration and consultation with my family, I have decided to honor the trust and faith shown to me by the citizens of Del City and south Oklahoma City when they elected me to serve as their representative for the sixth time in November of 2016. Today, I am announcing my intent to return to the Oklahoma House next session to complete the important work facing our great state," Inman said in a statement.

"As the legislature continues to work toward a bipartisan budget solution to address the myriad fiscal challenges facing our kids, seniors and veterans, I want to ensure my constitutents have the voice and the representation they rightfully deserve."

Inman has been largely absent from the legislature's two special sessions since Oct. 25. He announced that day he was dropping out of the race for governor and would resign from the legislature at the start of 2018, saying he could no longer ask his wife and children to sacrifice for him in his political career.

Inman was at the capitol Nov. 8 to vote against a revenue bill opposed by many House Democrats.

It was not clear from Inman's announcement whether he will return to the legislature when lawmakers are called back in January to resume the second special session.

Though Inman announced in October he would resign, he never submitted an official resignation. Rep. Steve Kouplen took over as minority leader when Inman left.

Inman is term limited in 2018.
