Tulsa, OK – Warm temperatures delay Tulsa ice rink opening

TULSA, Okla. (AP) Ice skating in Tulsa will be delayed for one day because of warm weather earlier this week.

Officials with the Winterfest festival say the 9,000-square-foot outdoor ice rink now is scheduled to open at noon Saturday, after previously being set to open Friday morning.

The Tulsa area, like much of Oklahoma, experienced unseasonably warm weather on Tuesday and Wednesday, with highs reaching into the 70s and 25-30 mph wind gusts.

Winterfest officials say the prolonged warm temperatures and the wind caused more than seven inches of ice that makes up the rink's base to melt.
