Tulsa, OK – Plans for I-244 bridge over Arkansas River to be discussed tonight

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation is seeking public input for an $87 million bridge replacement project on westbound I-244 over the Arkansas River in Tulsa. This project has recently been awarded a nearly $50 million TIGER (Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery) Grant, and is considered one of the top projects in the country to receive this funding.

The replacement proposal involves building a new "multi-modal" bridge at this location, which would incorporate the westbound highway, two dedicated future rail lines and an area for bicycle/pedestrian traffic into a double-decker style bridge.

A meeting is scheduled to gather public input, which will help planners identify any social, economic and environmental impacts that may result from the project. It is important to note, no official decision regarding the future of this bridge will be made at this meeting.
