Hungry Holidays: Food Bank's Annual Drive

The Annual Feeding Oklahoma Food Drive begins this week to help hungry families this holiday season. With an estimated 675,000 Green Country citizens looking to the food bank for support, especially during the holidays, it is necessary for the Food Bank to begin collecting now to prepare. The month long drive begins on October first and ends on October thirty-first. With an entire month to stock up on canned goods, they are looking to beat last years amount and reach instead an incredible 1.4 million meals.

Each week, the Food Bank of Oklahoma feeds an estimated 150,000 people. During the holiday season, they see an increase in need as many individuals need the support after trying to provide gifts or winter gear for their families. Many items can be donated, however the bank states that if canned goods are too much of an inconvenience then monetary donations are always accepted. "For every dollar that is donated, we can provide four meals," says spokeswoman Maggie Hoey.
