Tulsa, OK – The Home Builders Association of Greater Tulsa announced today that housing starts in metro Tulsa totaled 133 in January, even with starts from January 2009, and down 30 percent from December 2009. According to a report from permit-tracking service New Orders Weekly, Broken Arrow, Tulsa and Bixby had the most new home starts in January with 27, 18 and 14 building permits recorded, respectively.
"Although we are starting the year on a similar note, this year is different than 2009 because there is a much greater sense of optimism among builders and the entire building community," said Gary Soderstrom, a veteran builder and president of the Home Builders Association of Greater Tulsa. "Consumer confidence is slowly building, and people continue to recognize that a new home is a great investment with lasting value, especially here in Tulsa. In addition, with banks ready to loan at historically-low interest rates and incentives such as the expanded first-time home buyer tax credit, there are countless reasons why the timing has never been better. For those who are considering building a new home, I would encourage you to make this the year in order to take advantage of all of these groundbreaking opportunities."
