High Water Closes Roads

McALESTER, Okla. (AP) — The Oklahoma Department of Transportation reports parts of two state highways in southeast Oklahoma are closed because of heavy flooding and slick and hazardous conditions in northwestern Oklahoma and the Panhandle.

O-DOT says Highway 31 is closed west of McAlester and Highway 63 is shut down between Haileyville and Kiowa.

Pittsburg County Emergency Management Director Kevin Enloe says several county roads also are flooded, mainly at low-water crossings, and said more flooding is expected in the days ahead.

Enloe says there have been no reports of injuries or stranded motorists.

O-DOT also says highways are slick hazardous in the northwest and the Panhandle due to sleet, freezing rain and snow and that roads are wet and bridges slick in western Oklahoma — including along Interstate 40.
