Heavy Rain Snarls Tulsa's Morning Drive

KWGS News

Thunderstorms dump heavy rain in Tulsa,  right in the middle of the morning rush hour.  Slow moving, thunder rumbling storms passed over Tulsa at the peak of the morning commute causing numerous problems.

There were numerous accidents, so many that the Tulsa Police Department activated its 'Operation Slick Streets' plan where they only responded to injury accidents.  People in non-injury accidents were encouraged to swap information with the other driver and then go online to fill outan accident report form.

Traffic signals malfunctioned at several intersections because of lightning strikes, including the busy 81st and Riverside drive intersection.  Water was ponding on the roadways making travel around town difficult.
