Heat Death Toll Increases

By AP

Oklahoma City, OK – Okla. death toll from heat wave climbs to 9

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) An official with the state medical examiner's office says the death toll from the heat wave now stands at nine, with autopsies pending on seven more possible cases of heat death.

Spokeswoman Cherokee Ballard said a 57-year-old man discovered inside his northwest Oklahoma City home Tuesday evening with no electricity or water is the latest confirmed heat-related death. The temperature in Oklahoma City at 7 p.m. Tuesday was nearly 103 degrees.

Ballard says three other heat-related deaths were confirmed in Lawton and Tulsa.

An excessive heat warning remains in effect for much of eastern and northeastern Oklahoma through at least Thursday.
