Health Department Offers Free Car Seat Check

Oklahoma Highway Safety Office

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The Oklahoma State Department of Health is sponsoring free car seat checks this weekend.

The event is Saturday at the agency's offices in Oklahoma City.

Infant and children's car seats will be checked for correct installation and replacement seats will be available to families that currently receive WIC —Women, Infants and Children Program — are WIC-eligible or are SoonerCare members.

Oklahoma Highway Safety Office figures show that in 2012, more than 4,300 children were occupants in motor vehicle crashes.

Officials say child safety seats reduce the risk of death in a crash by 71 percent for infants and by 54 percent for toddlers.
