TULSA, Okla. (AP) — An Oklahoma group hoping to build a museum highlighting the contributions to popular culture made by musicians, writers and other artists with ties to the state says it will continue pushing for funding for the project.
Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Leon Russell and drummer Jamie Oldaker, who performed for years with Eric Clapton, are among those who have donated to the proposed Oklahoma Museum of Popular Culture's more than 100,000-piece collection.
The donated films, photos, instruments and other items the Tulsa museum would feature are currently sitting in boxes at the state's history center in Oklahoma City.
Museum backers were unable to secure the $40 million in state funding needed to construct the building, but they say they plan to try again during next year's legislative session.
