Grasshoppers on the Move

By AP

Norman, OK – Grasshoppers move to urban areas due to heat

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) An entomologist at Oklahoma State University says the record-setting heat and ongoing drought in Oklahoma is causing grasshoppers to move into urban areas in search of food.

Rick Grantham told The Norman Transcript that the lack of green vegetation in more rural areas has driven the insects to cities where they find green lawns and gardens.

Grantham says for grasshoppers, those green areas are "like a flashing cafe sign to them."
