Tulsa, OK – Mayor Dewey Bartlett and Police Chief Chuck Jordan announced today that the City of Tulsa Police Department was notified of the award of the 2011 COPS Hiring Program grant.

The award is approximately $3.5 million over the three year grant period, funding 19 officer positions.

Mayor Bartlett said he is pleased the Tulsa Police Department is eligible for the allocation.

"Our next step is to sit down with Chief Jordan and the City Council to review the conditions and requirements of the grant to determine how it could best be used and when new officers can start with TPD," Mayor Bartlett said.

This recent round of COPS grants were awarded only to those cities that previously received COPS funding. The City has 90 days to review the terms of the grant.
