Governor to Propose Teacher Pay Increase

NGA

Oklahoma's governor is planning to raise the pay of classroom teachers across the state of Oklahoma. Governor Fallin will introduce a plan to increase teacher salaries next week. Fallins spoke with Oklahoma Watch but did not offer any specific details or an outline of her plan.

David Boren, president of OU, recently presented his own plan for a one cent sales only to be used for Oklahoma education and would bypass the legislature. Fallin has concerns about Boren's proposed sales tax.

The governor worries Boren's tax could only make the state's budget problem worse for future governors. She will propose her own plan to raise teacher's pay in her State of the State address this coming Monday.
