Governor Goes Before Legislature

By AP

Oklahoma City, OK – Okla. Legislature set to convene, listen to Fallin

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) The Oklahoma Legislature is set to convene.

The Legislature will convene formally at noon Monday and Gov. Mary Fallin will deliver her first State of the State address at about 12:30 p.m. Fallin is the state's first Republican governor in eight years.

In her speech, Fallin is expected to outline her priorities and present her balanced budget proposal to the Legislature.

Republicans now hold a 70-31 advantage over Democrats in the House and a 32-16 majority in the Senate.

Also Monday, Republican leaders in the House and Senate say they will unveil a bill that would strip power from the state Board of Education. The proposal comes in the wake of a contentious meeting last week between new state Superintendent Janet Barresi and the board.
