Getting to Know Quartet San Francisco

By Rich Fisher

Tulsa, Oklahoma – On today's show, we speak by phone with violinist Jeremy Cohen, the founder and leader of Quartet San Francisco, a critically acclaimed, often Grammy-nominated, and ever-exploratory string quartet that will soon be performing two shows in Tulsa. The first is on Saturday the 29th at 7:30pm, when QSF will appear as guest artists with the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra at the Tulsa PAC; the second is on Tuesday the 1st, when they will offer a jazz-infused chamber music performance (also at 7:30pm) at the Helmerich Theatre in Cascia Hall School. As we learn on today's show, to call the QSF a "classical crossover ensemble" only really hints at what this foursome is up to --- this is a group of string-players that truly executes, as it were, in a wide range of genres: from jazz to pop, tango to funk, blues to bluegrass, gypsy swing to big band, etc. (You can learn more about this engagingly adventuresome combo at quartetsanfrancisco.com --- where you can not only hear several clips of this quartet's music but also, by clicking on "Concerts," find links to ticket-sale pages for their shows in Tulsa.)
