Gas Shut off to Afton

Google Street View

Authorities are investigating after someone turned off the main gas valve serving a small town in northeastern Oklahoma.

Afton Mayor Bill Harrison says about 300 residents and businesses are served by the gas line in the Ottawa County town. The Miami News-Record reports that someone shut off Afton's valve on Monday night, cutting off service to the town.

Harrison says the shutdown appears to be intentional because the valve is capped and locked. He says someone unlocked the valve, shut it off, then replaced the cap and lock. Harrison says the town had to turn off every gas meter in town then switch them back on Tuesday.

The mayor says officials will pursue felony charges against whoever was responsible for the shutdown.
