Garth Goes to Court

Claremore, OK – Brooks' suit against Okla. hospital goes to trial

CLAREMORE, Okla. (AP) A trial is scheduled to begin in a lawsuit by country music star Garth Brooks against an Oklahoma hospital.

Brooks sued Integris Canadian Valley Regional Hospital in 2009, alleging the Yukon hospital reneged on a promise to name a building addition after his late mother in exchange for a $500,000 contribution. The lawsuit, filed in Rogers County District Court, seeks a return of the December 2005 donation.

Brooks alleged that hospital officials presented mock-ups of buildings bearing Colleen Brooks' name during meetings. The lawsuit says officials later informed Garth Brooks the donation would be used the way in which it was "earmarked," and there were no additional discussions.

Hospital officials acknowledged the donation was made, but have denied most of the allegations in the lawsuit.
