Gambling Up at State Casinos
Oklahoma City, OK – Oklahoma casino revenue up
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Oklahoma state finance officials say state revenue from casinos hit a high of $106 million in fiscal 2009 despite the national recession.
Casino revenue was $81.4 million in 2008, $46.8 million in 2007, $14.2 million in 2006 and $2.3 million in 2005. Nationally, gambling revenue to state and local government is down slightly.
Oklahoma gets part of each tribe's revenue from card games and gaming machines.
Meanwhile, Oklahoma's lottery revenue has fallen to $69 million, down from $72 million in fiscal year 2008.
Treasurer Scott Meacham says tribal gaming has done so well that it may be pulling lottery revenue down. He says casinos have gone through major upgrades in recent years and are pulling in gamblers from out of state.
