Funding Cuts Could Close a Tulsa Airport Exit

KWGS News File Photo

Planned federal cuts could mean closing one exit point at Tulsa International Airport, but officials say the impact here would likely be minimal. The Department of Homeland Security plans to cut funding nationwide for TSA security officers at exit points…an area similar to one used in last week’s shootings at Los Angeles International. If funding is cut, Alexis Higgins with Tulsa International says the exit would most likely be closed. She says that’s the best option if Homeland Security ends funding for manning airport exits.

Higgins says the lane next to the main security checkpoint is the one that would close, and that’s mostly used by staff and concessionaires. The other two exits are on the concourses and include special security doors that keep out anyone trying to enter in the wrong direction.
