Fulton Plaza Bumped from HUD Voucher Program

Troubles are mounting for an apartment complex partially condemned by the City of Tulsa last month after residents went without heat for a month and a half or more.

City Councilor Karen Gilbert said she received confirmation Wednesday from Congressman Jim Bridenstine’s office that Fulton Plaza has been barred from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s housing choice voucher program.

"Since it didn’t pass inspection — because it’s not livable conditions, not having any heat — then they’ve revoked Fulton Plaza from having participation with HUD," Gilbert said.

"I just hope it doesn’t send just a message to Fulton Plaza but it also sends a message to other apartment complexes throughout the City of Tulsa," Gilbert said.

Dozens of residents were relocated last month after the city condemned most of the buildings. Necessary repairs have not been made, and there are problems besides the heat not working.

"They are still working on the boiler system to provide heat to the other sections and also fixing up the other ongoing issues that they’ve had in that complex of staircases being deteriorated and flooding issues," Gilbert said.
