Forthcoming on All This Jazz: Great Old American Songs

Happy Thanksgiving, fellow music lovers.

On the next edition of All This Jazz, which begins at 10pm Central on Saturday the 24th on Public Radio 89.5-1, we'll listen back to a mighty fine show that we first aired about a year ago (on 26 November 2011).

For that show, our second-hour theme was "Great Old American Songs" --- in honor of the great old American holiday that is Thanksgiving. Thus we'll hear, in the second half of our proceedings, modern-jazz renditions of such timeless themes as "Billy Boy," "John Brown's Body," "Bye-Bye, Blackbird," and "Home on the Range." And in the first hour of this show, we'll remember the late drummer/composer/bandleader Paul Motian, a giant in American jazz from the late '50s onward, who died at 80 in November of last year.

Please join us for a program that'll feature music by --- along with Mr. Motian --- Chick Corea, Helen Merrill, Ben Webster, Ahmad Jamal, Maria Schneider, and many more.

Scott Gregory started working at Public Radio Tulsa in 2006; he started listening to public radio circa 1980, when he and NPR both marked their tenth birthdays (although only one of them commemorated the occasion with a party at Skate World). Scott became this radio station's Operations Director in the summer of 2023; he also hosts and programs All This Jazz, which airs every Saturday night on Public Radio 89.5-1 from 9pm till midnight.
