TULSA, Okla. (AP) — A former Tulsa sheriff's deputy who says he was pressured to sign memos regarding the training of a reserve deputy has testified before a grand jury.
Warren Crittenden testified Tuesday before the grand jury that's investigating the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office. Residents petitioned for an investigation after Reserve Deputy Robert Bates fatally shot an unarmed man in April.
In a leaked 2009 memo, Crittenden said he was afraid to not sign paperwork that said Bates was qualified for duty. Bates is charged with second-degree manslaughter.
Crittenden declined to elaborate on his testimony but said "it feels good to tell the truth."
In a separate case, Crittenden was charged with first-degree murder in the January shooting of a man at a Tulsa motel, but a judge dismissed that charge last month.
