Former Osage Nation Officer Charged in Pedestrian's Death

TULSA, Okla. (AP) — Oklahoma authorities have filed charges against a former tribal officer who they say ran over a pedestrian while off-duty.

Court records indicate that Corey Stewart was charged Monday with leaving the scene of a fatality collision and obstructing an officer. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.

Stewart had worked for the Osage Nation Police Department but was fired last month following the May 1 crash.

Tulsa police say Stewart was driving his police vehicle when he struck Shawn Watashe and drove off. Officers say Stewart later returned and told them he wasn't sure if he had hit something in the road.

Watashe died from his injuries at an area hospital.

Online court records didn't indicate an attorney for Stewart.
