Flu Shots for Hospital Workers

By Associated Press

Tulsa, OK – Tulsa area hospitals recommend flu vaccinations

TULSA, Okla. (AP) Hospitals in the Tulsa are highly recommending but not requiring staff members get vaccinations for both the seasonal and the swine flu.

Dr. Steve Swyden at St. Francis Hospital says there's not enough swine flu vaccine for everyone yet. He says people who work with high-risk groups and in the Children's Hospital are strongly encouraged to get vaccinated.

Some hospitals in the Oklahoma City area are requiring employees to either get a flu shot or wear masks in patient areas through the end of flu season in spring.

State Health Department spokeswoman Pam Williams says the only flu virus in Oklahoma now is H1N1 or swine flu.

Eight Oklahomans including three children have died from swine flu.
