Tulsa, OK – Family of flu victim can't afford funeral

TULSA, Okla. (AP) The family of a 16-year-old flu victim is unable to afford the cost of his funeral.

LaTowyn Gaston, a sophomore at East Central High School, died Thursday from Type A influenza. Health officials are trying to determine if it was swine flu. His aunt, Deneeco Young, says he died a day after his 16th birthday.

Young says Gaston started feeling ill Wednesday and was taken to St. Francis Hospital. He died about 9:40 p.m. Thursday.

Young says Gaston did not have asthma or any other underlying health problems.

Young says Gaston's mother, Young's sister, is out of work and can't afford funeral services. Services are pending with Keith D. Biglow Funeral Directors, and school and funeral home officials have offered to help take donations.
