Skiatook, OK – Okla. man killed in firework accident identified

SKIATOOK, Okla. (AP) A funeral home has identified a 20-year-old man who was killed when he was struck in the throat by a firework in Skiatook.

Sien-Shelton Funeral Home in Skiatook told the Tulsa World that Austin McCloud of Wynona was the victim. He died Sunday night while inspecting a rocket-type firework that didn't go off when it suddenly ignited.

Fire officials say the concussion from the firework impaired McCloud's ability to breathe, and that he inhaled hot gasses that badly burned his airway.

The funeral home said McCloud worked as a welder and that he is survived by his 18-year-old wife.

Services are pending.
