Fire Out at GRDA Power Plant

Google Street View

Lightning is to blame for a fire at the Grand River Dam Authority's power generation station just east of Chouteau.

Lightning hit a device that lubricates the turbines at the Highway 412 facility. That shut off  lubricants flowing to the turbine. The big motors kept turning and over heated. That, in turn, started the fire at the plant.

The GRDA says no one was injured and no one lost power because of the fire.
