Final Rock Slide Work Set on Interstate 35 in Oklahoma

DAVIS, Okla. (AP) — Interstate 35 near Davis will be narrowed for the final work following a rock slide in June.

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation says northbound I-35 will be narrowed to one lane in the Turner Falls area from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday for the final phase of stabilizing the formation in the Arbuckle Mountains.

The work includes placing bolts into the formation to anchor the rock face and help prevent future slides. A small section of fencing will also be installed on the mountain.

O-DOT says drivers should expect delays and plan extra travel time.

The rock slide on June 18 came following heavy rains associated with Tropical Depression Bill and caused portions of the interstate to be closed for seven weeks. About 14,000 tons of rock was removed.
