Oklahoma City, OK – Remains identified as missing Vietnam War soldiers
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) The Department of Defense says the remains of two Vietnam War soldiers one from Oklahoma and one from Nebraska have been identified.
Officials announced Wednesday that the remains of U.S. Army Chief Warrant Officer 1st Lt. Donald Wann of Shawnee and 1st Lt. Paul Magers of Sidney, Neb., will be returned to their families for burial with full military honors.
Wann and Magers were killed June 1, 1971, when the AH-1 Cobra helicopter they were flying was shot down in South Vietnam.
Human remains were found in 2008 and 2009 near the suspected crash site and were identified through DNA testing by the Armed Forces DNA Identification Laboratory in Hawaii.
Wann will be buried Aug. 21 at Fort Gibson National Cemetery and Magers will be buried Aug. 27 in Laurel, Mont.
