Fewer Agency Workers

Oklahoma City, OK – Oklahoma agency merger could lead to fewer workers

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) The consolidation of five state agencies under a new law may result in fewer employees.

State Finance Director Preston Doerflinger told The Oklahoman it's too early to project how much of a reduction in staff will occur, but he and House Speaker Kris Steele say they expect there will be personnel changes.

House Bill 2140 consolidates the Central Services Department, the Office of Personnel Management, the Oklahoma State and Education Employees Group Insurance Board and the State Employees Benefits Council with the state finance office.

About 700 employees work for the five agencies, 240 of them in the Central Services Department.

The law went into effect Friday although efforts have been under way since the end of the legislative session in May on how it will be implemented.
