Oklahoma City, OK – State senator offers primary challenge to Boren
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) A Democratic state senator from Tahlequah says he plans to challenge U.S. Rep. Dan Boren in the primary race for Oklahoma's 2nd Congressional District.
State Sen. Jim Wilson confirmed Wednesday he is completing paperwork with the Federal Election Commission to seek the post.
The 63-year-old Vietnam veteran says he was prompted to run by Boren's opposition to the new federal health care law. Boren was one of 34 Democrats in the U.S. House who opposed the health care overhaul.
Five Republicans already have announced plans to oppose Boren, but Wilson is the first Democrat.
Wilson will be term limited in 2012 and will retain his Senate seat even if his congressional campaign is unsuccessful.O
