John and Ravi Coltrane. Chico and Arturo O'Farrill. Bucky and John Pizzarelli. Max and Maxine Roach. John and Alec Dankworth. Stan and Clark Tracey. Dewey and Joshua Redman. The wonderful Ellis Marsalis and, well, all of his instrument-wielding sons.
The list goes on and on. There are lots of stellar jazz-musician fathers whose sons or daughters have become outstanding jazz musicians themselves.
And so, this being Father's Day Weekend, on the next edition of All This Jazz -- beginning at 10pm on Saturday the 20th on Public Radio 89.5 KWGS-FM, and online via live stream at PublicRadioTulsa.org -- such will be our second-hour theme: Jazz-Playing Fathers and Their Jazz-Playing Descendants.
We'll hear (in the latter half of our program, beginning at 11pm) from the likes of Von Freeman and Chico Freeman, Jay Leonhart and Carolyn Leonhart, and Grant Green and Grant Green, Jr. -- among others. And in the first hour of ATJ, amid other highlights, we'll listen to choice cuts from Gary Burton, Glenn Miller, Miles Davis, and more.
Each week, our show delivers 120 minutes of excellent modern jazz, both recent and classic, across a range of styles -- from Louis Armstrong to Joe Zawinul. And the second hour of the broadcast, as indicated above, always carries a theme.
Join us. It's all kinds of jazz and all kinds of fun. It's All This Jazz.
