Fatal Fire in Okmulgee

By AP

Okmulgee, OK – Fire claims the life of an elderly Oklahoma man

OKMULGEE, Okla. (AP) Investigators say an elderly man has died in a fire in north Okmulgee.

Crews were called to the residence just before 8 p.m. Wednesday. Firefighters say the blaze was contained to one room of the home, and the victim's neighbors and family members had pulled him from the residence before they arrived.

The man was transported to the hospital, where he later died. Officials didn't immediately release his name.

Fire Chief Rick Mitchell told KJRH-TV that firefighters were able to get the fire under control quickly, but the cold weather caused their equipment to freeze, making the battle more difficult.

The fire marshal has not determined what started the blaze.
