OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The family of Oklahoma's slain labor commissioner has issued a statement thanking members of the public for their prayers and support and asking for privacy.
In a statement issued Monday through family spokesman Joshua Harlow, Mark Costello's family says it can't adequately express the "shock and sadness" it has experienced since his stabbing death Sunday.
Authorities arrested Costello's 26-year-old son, Christian Costello, on a preliminary charge of first-degree murder. They say he attacked his father with a knife at a fast-food restaurant.
The family says Christian Costello is mentally ill. Court records show he received in-patient treatment for an undisclosed mental illness as part of a deferred sentence in a plea deal for driving under the influence of drugs in 2012.
