Fallin Opponent Calls for OSBI Probe of Execution

State House

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Governor Mary Fallin's Democratic opponent in the race for Oklahoma governor wants he calls an independent probe into last week's botched execution of a death row inmate.

State Representative Joe Dorman of Rush Springs said Thursday he wants the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation to conduct the investigation into last week's execution of Clayton Lockett. A doctor said Lockett's vein collapsed during the lethal injection.

Dorman is among those who have been critical of Fallin's decision to name one of her appointees and cabinet members, Commissioner of Safety and Security Michael Thompson, to head the investigation. Thompson also was a witness to the execution.

Fallin spokesman Alex Weintz says the governor has complete confidence in Thompson and said Dorman is "trying to make the execution process a campaign issue."
