Exam of Would-be Oklahoma Bomber expected in August

KWGS News File Photo

TULSA, Okla. (AP) — A mental evaluation of an Illinois man charged with plotting to firebomb dozens of Oklahoma churches will be finished around late August.

A letter to U.S. Magistrate Paul Cleary and filed this week with the court estimates the evaluation of Gregory Weiler the Second of Elk Grove Village, Illinois will be done about August 21st.

The letter from the North Carolina-based federal medical center says a final report should be filed with the court about two weeks later.

Cleary had earlier found Weiler incompetent to stand trial.

Weiler is allegedly planned to destroy 48 churches in northeastern Oklahoma and prepared to launch the attacks from a tiny motel he was living in near Interstate 44 in Miami, Oklahoma.

He was arrested in October.
