Ex-Tulsa Sheriff's Official Settles Wrongful Firing Claim

Linked In

A former spokesman for an Oklahoma sheriff's office that was investigated after a former reserve deputy fatally shot an unarmed man has reached a settlement in his wrongful termination claim.

The Tulsa World reports that former Tulsa County Sheriff's Maj. Shannon Clark was fired last year.

The details of the settlement are confidential.

Clark says he was wrongly blamed for leaking a 2009 internal report that questioned the field training of ex-reserve deputy Robert Bates, who fatally shot Eric Harris in April 2015.

The internal report was released to reporters by an attorney for the Harris family after the shooting.

Bates says he mistakenly reached for his gun instead of a stun gun when he shot Harris. Bates is serving a four-year prison term for second-degree manslaughter.
