Ethics Concerns

Oklahoma City, OK – State ethics panel mulls election rule changes

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) The executive director of the Oklahoma Ethics Commission says a landmark decision by the U.S. Supreme Court on election spending will have a dramatic effect on Oklahoma politics.

The five-member Ethics Commission is scheduled to vote Friday on changes to Oklahoma ethics rules to comply with the new decision.

The Supreme Court ruled Thursday that labor unions and corporations may spend as much of their money as they like on their own campaign ads to support or oppose candidates.

Under current Oklahoma rules, those entities are limited to using funds from their Political Action Committees.

Ethics Commission Executive Director Marilyn Hughes says the ruling "changes the whole complexion" of political campaigns.
