Enrollment Up... Budgets Down

File photo

"Doing more… with less! "

That could be the motto of Oklahoma Schools.  Budgets are thin and classrooms are bulging. The State Board of Education today released enrollment figures for Oklahoma’s public schools.

State School Superintendent Joy Hofmeister says total enrollment, this fall,  stands at 692,670 students. That is up near 4,400 from last year. Hofmeister says enrollment has increased more than 9% since 2005. During that time school budgets have been drastically trimmed by the state.

Educators will gather in Tulsa tonight to discuss education standards for Oklahoma. That meeting will be at the Metropolitan Baptist Church in North Tulsa.
