Enid, Okla. – ENID, Okla. (AP) A proposed $20 million bond issue for downtown development in Enid has failed in a close vote.
Unofficial returns show voters rejected the plan by fewer than 150 votes 4,023 to 3,892.
The proposed bonds were to be matched with $20 million from the city to redevelop the downtown business district. The projects were to include renovating Mark Price Arena, expanding the Cherokee Strip Conference Center and building a new events center.
Supporters said the improvements would lead to additional retail businesses and a hotel in downtown.
