Lawton, OK – Okla. governor wants to do away with income tax
LAWTON, Okla. (AP) Gov. Mary Fallin says her long-term goal is to do away with the state income tax and alter Oklahoma's tax structure to pay for essential government services.
Fallin made the comment Wednesday following a town-hall meeting at Fort Sill in Lawton.
The governor says she has no specific proposal to further reduce the income tax. The state's top tax rate is scheduled to drop from 5.5 percent to 5.25 percent on Jan. 1.
Fallin says eliminating the state income tax is not something that can be done next year or the year after. She says a committee is studying possible changes in tax policy.
Fallin says she wants to find the best way to fund essential services and make the state more attractive and friendlier to business.
