Educators Lobby Hard for 'Step Up Oklahoma'

OEA

Just ahead of today’s schedule debate and vote on the Step-Up Oklahoma plan, educators held a rally at the state capitol. The plan includes funding for a $5,000 teacher pay increase. Oklahoma teachers have not had a raise in over a decade.

Oklahoma State University President Burns Hargis was one of the speakers. He said lawmakers who fail to get the message are “tone-deaf”.

A National Honor Society student from Enid also spoke to the crowd. Bailey Fitzgerald thanked teacher for their contributions to her education and said it is past time for the state to thank teachers.
