File Photo

TULSA, Okla. (AP) — The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says that an off-duty trooper has shot and killed a man outside a Tulsa motel.

OHP Lt. George Brown said the trooper, whose name has not been released, saw two men outside the motel just after 1 a.m. Sunday.

The Tulsa World reports that the trooper said one of the men was armed with a handgun. Brown says the trooper identified himself as a patrolman, took out and displayed his weapon and ordered the men to stop.

Brown says the trooper perceived a threat and fired, killing one of the men

OHP has identified the victim only as a man. Brown says the second suspect ran from the scene and has not been located.

Brown says the trooper will be placed on leave.
