Tahlequah, OK – Body of OK teen who drowned in Ill. River found

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. (AP) Authorities have recovered the body of a teenager who drowned while swimming in the Illinois River in eastern Oklahoma.

Oklahoma Scenic Rivers Commission Administrator Ed Fite says the body of 18-year-old Xenepher Wiley Jr. was recovered about 4:20 p.m. Sunday by commission staff members searching the river in a boat.

Fite says Wiley was swimming with friends Friday when he began struggling near the U.S. 62 bridge. Fite says witnesses tried to help him but couldn't get him out of the water.

The body was found about 500 yards downstream from where Wiley was last seen.
