Drought or Just Dry? State Officials Are Watching the Rain Gauge

U.S. Drought Monitor

It has been nearly a month since we have had measurable rain in Tulsa. The U.S. drought monitor is showing our area as abnormally dry.

State climatologist Gary McManus says this could be the start of a new drought. However, he says it is really too early to tell. He says any drought will take months to develop.

McManus says the dry conditions could also result in a high fire danger as vegetation goes dormant for fall. He says that could be a possibility by this weekend in western Oklahoma, with high temps, a low humdity and gusty winds in the forecast.
