Downtown Parade Draws a Large Crowd

KWGS News

A crowd estimated in excess of 30,000 people filled downtown Tulsa for the 'Downtown Christmas Parade'.

The hour and 15-minute parade snaked through the downtown buildings to the delight of young and old alike. Candy flowed like Halloween to the children curbside.

80-year-old U.S. Senator Jim Inhofe, who had boycotted the parade when the word "Christmas" was exchanged for "Holiday" several years ago, was back riding his horse through the streets.

Mayor Bartlett was on a float wishing watchers a "Merry Christmas" from a public address system.

A little bit surprising was Santa Claus. The Grand Old Man from the North Pole made his appearance in the middle of the parade rather than at the traditional end.

The parade's ending coincided with fireworks from the WinterFest celebration near the BOK Center.
